Two Premier League players were reportedly arrested over an alleged rape, with one initially being questioned at the club's stadium.

According to The Sun, police descended on the ground and one of the players, aged 19, was spoken to on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. The report alleges his team-mate, also 19, was arrested the following day and questioned on suspicion of rape.

A police spokesperson told: “Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape. A 19 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail.”

THE ALLEGED ATTACK

The report states one of the players spent a night in a police cell and was questioned by detectives. The alleged rape is thought to have taken place on Friday, April 19, and the alleged victim reportedly contacted officers hours later, before filing a formal complaint.

WHAT NEXT?

The report added that one of the accused was allowed to leave the stadium after being questioned, before later being arrested. The police will now investigate this matter further while the accused have been released on bail.
