Barcelona have touted as Rashford's preferred option for a move this winter, however, the Catalan side's tight wage bill has put the move in danger with departures in January required to be able to register the England international. The Blaugrana are now closing in on sealing the departure of highly-rated 18-year-old Hernandez as per Fabrizio Romano with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad set to sign the midfielder for a fee close to €4-5 million (£3.3-4.2m/$4.2/5.2m).

In order to make the move for Rashford, Barcelona are thought to need to find €6 million (£5m/$6.3m) in their wage cap. If the Blaugrana can settle the Hernandez move soon, they could be able to convince either Rashford or United to make a compromise on his wages to sign with the five-time Champions League winners.

Despite his potential move to Barcelona, Rashford will likely not be a regular starter for Hansi Flick's side with Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal showing world-class form. As such, the England international will likely be competing for a role off the bench alongside Ferran Torres, Pau Victor, Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez.
