Rob McElhenney left a TV reporter at the Emmys stunned when revealing that the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series landed five awards.

The ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ actor was on the red carpet in Los Angeles for another prestigious awards show. There was to be no nod for the sitcom that he stars in alongside wife Kaitlin Olson, but his side project in North Wales has drawn plaudits from all over the world.

‘Welcome to Wrexham’ is now a global phenomenon, with the Red Dragons’ fan base continuing to grow as a result. McElhenney and his fellow co-chairman Ryan Reynolds have been revelling in that acclaim, but it would appear that not everybody is aware of quite how successful they have been.

When speaking with Laverne Cox, the E! reporter was stunned to discover that McElhenney has added five Emmys to his trophy collection in 2024. She said: “Holy crap! Congratulations, that’s amazing. I didn’t realise it was that many!”

‘Welcome to Wrexham’ will be back for a third series later in the year, with there every chance that another successful promotion bid will be caught on camera.
