Everton suffered defeat at the hands of high-flying Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park, ending a good run of form for Sean Dyche's men. There is no shame in losing to Nuno Espirito Santo's men at the moment but former striker Maupay could not help aiming a dig at the Toffees, having done so before leaving for Marseille in the summer.

Posting on X, Maupay said: "Whenever I’m having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Maupay's post got a lot of attention, unsurprisingly from angry Everton fans, who were quick to point out that Craig Dawson – a defender who has never played for the club – has scored more times for the Toffees than the Frenchman. Everton have actually been on an upward trend in recent weeks, picking up points against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

AFPWHAT NEXT FOR MAUPAY?

While Maupay would have had his kick out of trolling Everton fans, his attention will very quickly turn back to his form at Marseille. The 28-year-old has just two goals in 12 appearances this term, with his team 10 points behind Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 standings.
