The two England international wingers remain contracted to the Red Devils, but both find themselves playing elsewhere in the 2024-25 campaign. Sancho was frozen out on Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag, leading to him returning to Borussia Dortmund on loan before linking up with Chelsea last summer.

He has seen Rashford endure similar struggles in Manchester, with Ruben Amorim dropping the 27-year-old forward from his plans. A switch to Aston Villa that includes a permanent purchase option was completed during the winter transfer window.

Rashford made his debut for Villa off the bench in their FA Cup fourth-round win over Tottenham. Sancho responded to a series of images posted on social media with a one-word “freedom” reply – which is considered to be a nod towards both escaping their exile at United.

InstagramWHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Unsurprisingly, Sancho’s quip has not gone down well with Red Devils fans. @UtdFaithfuls said: “This is so EMBARRASSING and UNPROFESSIONAL from Sancho. Genuinely one of the WORST footballers to ever play for us. Has the worst mentality and attitude I've ever seen.”

@KshitijAMalve added: “I saw people calling Antony the worst transfer but let's be real, the lad has been nothing but respectful. Whether things work out with him or not, I have no ill feeling to him. Sancho has to be the most unprofessional footballer to ever don our jersey. Tevez was another, but he at least had the talent to back him up.”
