Anand Vasu30-Jun-2000Thailand won the toss in their opening game at the Asian Cricket CouncilUnder 15 Tournament at Malaysia against India. Unfortunately that was themost positive thing they managed to achieve all day. Losing the 40 overencounter by 246 runs, the Thailand team were decimated by a team that wasin a different class altogether.Putting India in to bat, there was no respite for the Thai bowlers asHyderabad opener Ambati Tirupati Rayadu slammed 64 at the top of theinnings. Palash Das was not far behind in his quickfire innings of 63 inthe middle order. Taking just 50 balls and peppering the boundary fourtimes in his stay at the wicket, Das propped the Indian middle order up.Although four batsmen failed to reach double figure, the Indians managed amore than healthy 272 in their allotted 40 overs. This proved to be far out of reach of the Thai batsmen. The scorecard fortheir innings reads an embarrassing 26 all out. Arjun Kumar made 11 beforehe was bowled by left arm seamer Irfan Pathan. That proved to be the onlyresistance the Thais could offer. Six batsmen failed to get off the markand the wickets were shared all around. Irfan Pathan’s brief spell of 4balls resulted in 3 wickets, something you will not see every day in cricket. The whole affair was too one sided to have given India a serious work out. When they take on Pakistan and Sri Lanka later in the tournament however, things will be anything but one sided.
